Depending on how much research you’ve done, it’s likely that you’ve never heard of Urikar or maybe you have. Regardless, the company was actually founded over a decade ago and is headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Founded by Bob Anderson, Urikar sprung to life from a need to relieve his chronic muscle pain following intense workouts. Like many that suffer with pain, looking for a reliable solution quickly becomes a top priority.
If you’re curious about the origins of its name, their website puts it like this:
“The brand Urikar was originally from the ancient Greek word “Eureka” , which means “triumph on a discovery”, since this is a great milestone for Bob after making the first Urikar products.”
Today, Urikar has fleshed out their product line to include 4 different massage guns, including the all-new Pro 3 and AT1 models which we will review today. For simplicity sake, we are going to talk about each massage gun separately and then compare them in the end.
Urikar Pro 3
The Urikar Pro 3 is currently listed at $139.99 on their website. For any decent massage gun, that’s not a bad price and is reason enough to give this one your consideration. To sweeten the deal, there are promo codes and coupons that can be applied to bring that price down even further. More details on that at the end.
Price aside, there are actually a few notable features of the Pro 3 that are sure to peak your interest.
Let’s start by talking about that rotatable grip, shall we? It’s unlike anything we’ve seen before and in practice is much more than a gimmick. Like our darling child the Ekrin B37, the Urikar Pro 3 also has a 15 degree angled grip that is ergonomically superior to the classic “T-shaped” designs, like the Hypervolt.
To evolve that concept further, Urikar designed the Pro 3 so that the handle is rotatable 180 degrees! That’s right, with a simple twist of the grip, you can completely change the angle in the reverse direction. It’s really quite seamless to do and gives you an elevated means of using the massage gun in different positions with ease. Whether you’re trying to reach that pesky spot in the middle of your back or hit your calves at a better angle, the rotating handle really makes a huge difference.
Power and Performance
The Urikar Pro 3 is advertised as having one of the quietest motors on the market. With 30 built in speeds, we can confirm that it is pretty quiet. However, like other quiet massage guns, it generally comes at the cost of not producing as much overall torque and percussive power and we think that’s the case here as well.
As we’ve said in other reviews, 30 speeds is not only unnecessary, but frustrating as well. The incremental difference between any one setting is so minuscule, there’s really no perceivable difference in power. Given that and the fact that if you do set it to 30, it takes about the same amount of time in seconds to actually get up to your desired speed. If you lack patience, this will be a constant headache for you.
Speaking of time, we do like the built in timer. It’s a convenient feature to give you an instant read on how long you’ve been using it. Because it’s easy to over guess, knowing how long you’ve been massaging a certain area of the body is important.
The built in lithium ion battery is rated at 2600mAh and should be good for about 8-10 hours. That’s plenty of juice to keep the Pro 3 off a charger for a couple weeks with conservative use.
Overall, we found the power of this particular Urikar massage gun to be acceptable for most applications. It’s certainly not the most powerful massage gun around, but will be sufficient for most people.
While the Pro 3 is a perfectly good massage gun, the Urikar AT1 model is next level.
With a slew of innovative never-before-seen features and built in AI, the AT1 comes out swinging at any and all competitors. More than once you could hear one of us here at Massage Gunfight exclaim, “Ah, that’s cool!” as we enthusiastically discovered all of its options.
So let’s cover the basics first, and then we’ll dive into all the neat things that set the Urikar AT1 apart later.
Priced at $269.99, it is inching more into the upper echelon price territory of premium massage guns, like the Theragun. Fortunately, that’s ok because although it has similar features, it still undercuts it by a good margin.
Those features include:
- An ergonomically designed rectangular handle/body that allows you to grip it in a number of different ways to reduce stress and fatigue.
- Up to 65lbs of stall force pressure and a super penetrating 16mm massage head amplitude. You want a deep massage? This delivers!
- A total of 6 different massage heads that are both functional and comfortable to use.
But that’s not all, the Urikar AT1 has a few other tricks up its sleeves that no other massage gun has.
AI Intelligent Dashboard
A massage gun with a readout LCD display is nothing new, but one that visually instructs you on where to use it and for how long is. With both a Manual and Auto mode built-in, you can either choose all the settings on your own or allow the AT1 to do all the work for you.
The Auto mode is unique in that it will not only automatically identify the massage head inserted, but it will also tell you where to use it on the body too. That’s pretty neat if you ask us. For those that are a little clueless as to where and which massage head to use, this will be a game changer.
Also, when in Auto mode, the AT1 will vary the intensity, speed, and depth based on the area of the body you’re using it on.
To top off the list of advanced features, the Urikar AT1 has an infrared sensor that detects proximity to the body. As you get closer to the body, it will slowly increase the percussive speed. Take it away and it will immediately slow the motor down. Not only does this make it more comfortable to use, but will save you on battery life too!
Battery Life and Performance
Urikar claims that the battery life should last up to 10 hours. We’ve yet to prove that, but we can say that we’ve been using it for a week now and have yet to throw it back on the charger. Unless you’re using it constantly throughout the day, say in a physical therapy or rehab type office setting, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the battery.
Specs and numbers are one thing, but real life performance can be another. While testing the AT1 we all agreed the the percussion was more than adequate in most regards. It was able to dig in when we wanted it and back off the pressure when we didn’t.
While we do think that most people will be happy with their decision to buy the Urikar AT1, it’s worth mentioning that physically, it is on the larger side. So if you’re looking for something portable that can easily be thrown in a purse, this is not the massage gun you’re looking for.
Urikar Pro 3 vs. AT1
|Comparison||Urikar Pro 3||Urikar AT1|
|Battery Life||Up to 10 hours||Up to 10 hours|
|Handle Type||Rotating||Rectangular Multi-Grip|
Fundamentally, both Urikar massage guns are great massagers. They both have plenty of power to work out the tightest of muscles. Ultimately, however, if you’re looking for a deluxe massage gun with a plethora of options and utmost power, the obvious choice is the Urikar AT1.
